Roof, roof, roof; chant the crowd at the coliseum. Another amazing Husker volleyball game is underway. Watching this video makes me think of the many husker volleyball games that I have gone to over the years. Seeing the team go through its highest of highs, winning the NCAA National Championship at the Qwest Center last year in Omaha, and its lowest of lows, losing in the National Championship game at the 2005 championships in Texas after being ranked number one the entire season. Not only does this video make me think of the husker volleyball team, but it also the husker volleyball team; but it also makes me think of my girls that I played volleyball with for so long. I remember everything from the first time I played volleyball competitively in seventh grade when there were over 90 girls because they did not cut, to ninth grade when they narrowed the girls down to about 18 and the best participated. From then on those were the group of girls that would be my teammates until I graduated high school with a few changes every year. I relived the strenuous training sessions, tough practices, long bus rides, physical games, and the late nights of driving from Lincoln or Omaha and having to wake up and be at school on time or running if we were not there. Volleyball is one of the best games or sports for young girls to play and I loved it. I loved playing throughout the summer on the summer league team, club teams during the spring, and helping coach my senior year because injuries. Playing volleyball was one of the best experiences of my life. The camaraderie shared among the girls created a bond that could not be broken by anything. Being a volleyball player in Nebraska, which is where some of the best volleyball players come from, are some of the best memories that I have, mainly because it was a part of my life for so long and during the season we were always together whether it be team dinners, home games, or weekend tournaments. I love reliving those moments and having those memories, I will never forget my girls and especially my favorite Coach Heather Rabe who I still keep in contact with and go see the new team this year every time they are in Lincoln.
