I remember watching that Oprah show about a teenage girl going through her pregnancy without her parents knowing; putting the baby in her closet, having dinner with her family, and then waiting until the next day to give her new baby boy to her boyfriend after putting the baby’s lifeless body into the duffle bag. I remember being horrified and angry that someone could do that to a newborn child. I mean you would have to be heartless to do something like that, especially to have the baby put it in your closet then go down and have dinner with your family like nothing has happened. Considering the fact that almost every state has the “Safe Haven Law,” I agree with Deanna Weeks that Nebraska should follow suit and pass this law as soon as possible. I don’t see a reason why they wouldn’t. The excuses made by the Lincoln city attorney makes it seem like a baby’s life is worth nothing to him. It seems that he is worried more about the financial aspect of this situation than the potential life of someone. Obviously this is an important issue that is worth being a law, if 48 out the 50 states have already passed Safe Haven Laws. The Safe haven Law basically states that a baby could be surrendered to any hospital, police station, or fire station without being prosecuted because all of it will be done confidentially. I do understand that there are certain processes that a state has to go through to pass this law, but why would something like this take so long when there is a child’s life hanging in the balance. Since we are such a conservative state and do not agree with abortion, this law should be passed because in all honesty I consider this to be a form of abortion.
